I always felt that Like Water for Chocolate was a little OTT for me... I mean, the story would have been more powerful (to me) if it remained squarely in the mundane until the end. The flights of fantasy ruined the over-arching message for me...
I would possibly change out Brazil for Eternal Sunshine, but I agree that Eternal Sunshine is a great film.
This post was actually directed towards one person in particular for a specific purpose, so it does not by any means reflect my ultimate movie faves list.
But having said that, I'm happy to hear your comments. And yes, Brazil would definitely be on my complete faves list. The Matrix would also be on there, along with American Beauty, Magnolia, Pleasantville and V for Vendetta. And, of course, my guilty pleasure, Pretty Woman. I'm sure I could go on forever, as movies have been a large part of my life for a long time.
As for your comment, Umlud, about Like Water for Chocolate, I don't see it that way. It wasn't about fantasy or reality, it was about metaphor. Much like Pan's Laybyrinth (another great film).

I haven't yet seen Benjamin Button.
